Kitty Yoga

October 1, 2008

In a desperate, last ditch effort to continue yoga without breaking the bank, I went to Target today and bought a new Yoga video, The Firm Power Yoga ($13 as opposed to the $150 I’d be paying if I continued at the fancy, eco-friendly professional yoga studio).  I was not the only one who enjoyed the idea of doing yoga from home….check this out:

S-T-R-E-T-C-H!

What?  Have you never seen a cat do yoga before?

I think it is quite possible Tigger did more yoga than I did because I was too busy snapping photos!

Twist and Shout

September 30, 2008

Only 2 days left of my 10 for $10 deal at the yoga studio.  I have learned so much over the past week regarding yoga and my body, mind, and spirit – and, my empty bank account.  I wanted to share a few of my favorite (and not-so-favorite) poses I’ve been doing (or attempting to do).  I use the word attempt very loosely here:

Let’s start with my all time favorite, Child’s Pose:

And, another reliable favorite, Downward Dog:

And, then there are my top 3 not-so-favorite poses, which I have renamed appropriately:

Pose #1:  The Crow (or in my case, the “You Want Me To Do What?” pose)

Pose #2: The Plow (also known as “What The Hell?”)

And finally, Pose #3: Side Planks (AKA “Give Me A Break – I’m Going Back to Child’s Pose” pose)

Yoga, despite your crazy moves, I am still going to miss you.

I got my ass kicked…and I liked it

September 23, 2008

WOW.  I learned so much from my first day of Power Yoga.  Let me share:

  1. Saying the studio is kept at 80-85 degrees actually means 90.
  2. Get there more than just 5 minutes before class. Dedicated Yogi have already been warming up for the last 15.
  3. I am not as flexible as I thought I was.
  4. I am not as familiar with the yoga poses as I thought I was.
  5. You need to check your cell phone, shoes, and pride at the door.
  6. The first time doing yoga after a year is not pretty and there are all sorts of mirrors around to prove it.
  7. Power yoga IS a workout.
  8. When the yoga instructor frequently comes by to adjust your poses and ask if you are ok, it is not a good sign.
  9. I am a more competitive person than I thought I was and like my new challenge.
  10. Finally, I learned that I have a lot to learn!
